This Philly cheesesteak flatbread takes everything you love about the classic sandwich, thin-sliced ribeye, melted cheese, and sweet caramelized onion, and folds it into a soft, thin dough that gets pan-fried until golden and crisp. It’s the same rich, savory flavor combo you’d get from a Philly cheesesteak, just in a completely different format that’s every bit as satisfying.
If you’re into stuffed flatbreads, don’t stop here. Try this flatbread with butter chicken for a creamy, spiced take on the same idea, or this flatbread with cheese if you want something simpler and just as satisfying.
Philly Cheesesteak Flatbread Ingredients
Ribeye steak: cut into small pieces and thin strips so the flatbread stays flat and folds easily around the filling without tearing or bulging.
Butter: adds a rich, savory taste to the meat mixture.
Cayenne pepper: brings the spice, feel free to dial it up or down depending on how much heat you like.
Honey: softens the dough, making it easier to roll out thin and pliable without it tearing.

Instructions

First, prepare all the ingredients for the meat. Finely chop the yellow onion and cut the beef into small, thin pieces.

Heat the sunflower oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and fry for 4–5 minutes until golden brown. Remove the fried onion from the pan and set aside.

Melt the butter in the same pan over medium heat. Add the beef, salt, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and paprika. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring regularly, until the meat is cooked through.

Add the grated cheese to the meat and mix well until the cheese has melted. Add the fried onion and mix until well combined. Remove the meat, onion, and cheese mixture from the pan and let it cool slightly.

Prepare the ingredients for the dough.

Place the flour, salt, honey, butter, and water in a large bowl. Knead for 10–12 minutes until smooth. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.

Lightly flour your work surface. Roll out one dough ball into a thin, round sheet.

Place a slice of cheese on one half of the rolled-out dough. Spread some of the beef mixture over the cheese. Add extra cheese of your choice, if desired. Fold the dough over the filling and firmly press the edges together to seal.

Place the filled bread on a sheet of parchment paper and repeat with the remaining dough balls and filling.

Heat a heavy-bottomed frying pan over medium heat and add a small amount of sunflower oil. Cook the flatbreads on both sides until golden brown and cooked through.
