Can’t choose between pizza and a burger? This pizza burger recipe gives you both at once. Half of the soft homemade dough is filled with seasoned ground beef, cheddar, and Big Mac sauce. while the other half gets loaded with tomato sauce, vegetables, and melted cheese just like a pizza. The result is a cheesy burger pizza that pulls apart into individual rolls, making it perfect for sharing at a party, a family dinner, or any night you want something a little more fun than usual.
What Is a Pizza Burger?
A pizza burger, sometimes called a burger pizza or pizzaburger, is a hybrid bake that combines the two best elements of both dishes in a single dough. One half of each roll is closed and filled like a cheeseburger and the other is topped like a pizza.
How to Make a Pizza Burger from Scratch
The key to this homemade pizza burger is the dough. Unlike a regular pizza base, this dough is enriched with olive oil and honey, giving it a soft texture. Once the dough has risen, you roll it out, cut it into eight pieces, and fill each one with the ground beef mixture and cheddar. You fold and roll the burger half tightly, leave the pizza half open, top it with tomato sauce and vegetables, and let it rise one more time before baking at 200 °C (400 °F) for 12–15 minutes. The pizza burger recipe with ground beef is straightforward. Just make sure the meat has cooled completely before filling.

Tips
Let the meat cool fully before filling. Warm ground beef softens the dough and makes it difficult to roll tightly.
Don’t roll the dough too thin. Thick enough dough holds the filling and gives you that soft, fluffy interior after baking.
Rest after baking. Let the pizza burgers cool for a few minutes before eating. The cheese firms up slightly and the rolls are much easier to handle.
Instructions

Add the lukewarm water, yeast, and honey to a deep bowl. Mix well and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Add the olive oil, flour, and salt. Knead for 10–12 minutes until smooth.

Cover and let it rise for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 7–8 minutes until the meat is browned and fully cooked.

Let the ground beef cool completely.

Deflate the risen dough and place it on a lightly floured work surface. Roll it out into a rectangle of about 50 × 45 cm and cut it into 8 equal pieces.

On each piece of dough, add some cheese, Big Mac sauce, part of the minced meat mixture, and cheddar cheese.

Fold the top and bottom edges of the dough partially over the filling. Roll it up tightly from the side with the filling. Pinch the seams so the filling cannot escape. Leave the remaining side for the pizza topping.

Place the dough on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Spread strained tomato sauce over the pizza section. Add bell pepper, red onion, zucchini, and grated cheese on top. Let rise for another 30 minutes.

Bake the pizzaburgers in a preheated oven at 200 °C (392 °F) for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown. Keep an eye on them, as every oven is different.
