500 g ground meat
5 g ras el kouzina 1⅔ tsp
2 g cayenne pepper powder ⅔ tsp
3 g onion powder 1 tsp
2 g cumin powder ⅔ tsp
2 g dried parsley
125 g yellow onion 1 yellow onion
1 beef stock cube
25 g sweet soy sauce
200 ml water
7 g cornstarch
100 ml heavy cream

Tips

Add a bay leaf and some garlic to the water while cooking the potatoes for extra flavor. Remove the bay leaf before mashing the potatoes.

For an extra crispy top, you can add a mixture of breadcrumbs and melted butter along with the grated cheese. Sprinkle this as the final layer before baking the casserole.

Experiment with different types of cheese.

If you want to add more vegetables, you can cook them with the meat mixture.

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add the spinach. Cook until wilted, then chop finely.

Peel the potatoes and cut into cubes. Bring a pot of water with salt to a boil and add the potatoes. Cook for 15-20 minutes until soft. Drain.

Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper to the drained potatoes. Mash or crush the potatoes and stir in the chopped spinach.

Heat the butter and olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef along with ras el kouzina, cayenne pepper powder, onion powder, cumin powder, and dried parsley. Cook briefly, then add the chopped onion and crumbled stock cube. Cook the mixture for 6-7 minutes.

Mix the cornstarch with water in a bowl.

Add the sweet soy sauce and cornstarch mixture to the meat mixture and let it cook briefly. Stir in the heavy cream and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Spread half of the potato-spinach mixture on the bottom of a baking dish. Top with half of the meat mixture and sprinkle some grated cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, meat mixture, and more grated cheese.

Place the baking dish in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) and bake for 12-18 minutes.

In a bowl, mix the water (200 ml) with the cornstarch (7 g) until smooth.

Heat the cornstarch mixture in a pan over medium heat. Add the black pepper powder, onion powder, sweet soy sauce, and soy sauce. Let it simmer until the gravy thickens.
